ENRILE, Cagayan — In support of National Lung Month, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 02 (DSWD FO2) Cagayan Valley Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (CVRRCY), in partnership with the Pulmonary Tuberculosis Society, Inc. (PTSI), brought free chest X-ray screening closer to the center’s residents and personnel on August 20, 2026.
As part of the activity, PTSI Branch Manager Vanessa Nicolas conducted an information session on the risks associated with smoking and vaping. She discussed how exposure to cigarette smoke and vape products can adversely affect the lungs and contribute to the development of respiratory illnesses.
Ms. Nicolas also provided information on pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), highlighting its continuing public health importance and the need for individuals to recognize possible symptoms and seek appropriate medical attention at the earliest opportunity.
Following the information session, residents and staff underwent free chest X-ray screening, allowing them to have their lung health assessed while reinforcing the value of regular health checks and preventive care.
This activity served as an opportunity to promote greater awareness of lung health, encourage preventive healthcare, and emphasize the importance of early detection of respiratory diseases, particularly among young people and those working in the facility.
