In order to strengthen the knowledge of its staff and residents about Pulmonary Tuberculosis, the Cagayan Valley Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth or CV-RRCY tapped the Philippine Tuberculosis Society Incorporated (PTSI) for the conduct of a health education orientation last March 26, 2014.

The orientation focused on Pulmonary TB, wherein Mrs. Catherine Jacobe, Head of PTSI, discussed about the disease’s modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, and its prevention and treatment.

After the discussion, residents and staff underwent a Sputum examination wherein results came out as negative. The sputum exam is the best analytical exam to identify whether a person has PTB or not.

In her message, Mrs. Shirley G. Labuguen, SWO III and RRCY Center Head, emphasized on the importance of health.

“Health is wealth, so we must take good care of ourselves and maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle,” she added.

Labuguen also expressed gratitude to the PTSI for the conduct of the activity. Both also agreed that same orientation will be held annually.

The RRCY is a residential care facility that provides care and rehabilitation to vulnerable youth and children in conflict with the law (CICL). Presently, the Center houses 22 residents. ###By PETER JOHN M. VILLAMIL, Nurse, CV-RRCY
