Cagayan State University-Sanchez Mira Campus’ “Laruang Papel”   took home three major film awards at the  International Day Against Human Trafficking’s red carpet event on December 12, 2014 in  Tuguegarao City.

With the theme, “Wakasan Human Trafficking, Ito’y Ating Tungkulin,” DSWD FO2 and the Department of Justice Field Office 2 led this year’s celebration against human trafficking.

In her message, Director Remia T. Tapispisan said, “I am truly amazed with the films shown tonight as if I am watching a commercial indie film. Kudos to the students, their school advisers and the members of the Regional Inter-Agency Council Against Human Trafficking (RIACAT). These films will serve as  advocacy materials in our fight against human trafficking.”

Moreover, Ms. Lucy Alan, DSWD FO2’s Head of the Protective Services Unit, shared that the outcome was beyond her expectations, thus, she wants a full-length movie by next year.

“Laruang Papel” revolves  a young woman who was a victim of incestuous relationship having been sexually abused by her own father, ran away from home and fell prey to human smugglers.

This movie garnered Best Film/Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress awards.

Meanwhile, “Juno: Batang Saksi,” the entry of the University of St. Louie, Tuguegarao City won the second place whereas “Magda-Elena,” an entry from Isabela State University-Echague failed to meet the deadline for submitting the entry. However, the film was shown  as a non-competitive film.

The awarding ceremony was a culminating activity for the month-long celebration of International Day Against Human Trafficking which kicked off with a series of lectures on Anti-human Trafficking Law all over the region  sometime in September and participated in by college students, partner agencies, Local Government Units and other stakeholders.### GELA FLOR R.
