The quest for more benefits for solo parents was reiterated at the recent Orientation on Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000 conducted by DSWD Field Office 02 in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
The orientation seeks to gather recommendations from solo parents and solo parents’ associations on the additional benefits and services for solo parents and their children.
Among the proposed amendments were the issuance of IDs to solo parents, reduction of taxes for solo parents and provision of additional health benefits, among others.
“As the lead agency in social protection, DSWD supports this proposed amendments to the said law as we recognize and respect the emergence of varying compositions of the family,” said Ms. Lucy s. Alan, Head, Protective Services Unit, DSWD Field Office 02 before the solo parents employees of the field office and partner LGU representatives. ### By: GELA FLOR R.
