The Sustainable Livelihood Program of DSWD FO2 conducted a skills training on the production of high-value crops last March 7 and 8, 2016 to enhance the capacities of 21 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries.

The said training was conducted to keep up with the rising demands for vegetables such as cauliflowers and cabbage needed for dishes like pinakbet and chopsuey and fruits as well.

Ms. Katilyn Cauilan, Project Development Officer (PDO) II of San Mariano, said that the skills’ training is a way for the beneficiaries to have an alternative to the rice and corn that they produce.

“We need to capacitate them with ways to earn aside from the usual crops that they produce because they sometimes suffer from financial loss because of recurring bad weather conditions,” Ms. Cauilan said.

There will be monthly monitors according to Ms. Cauilan to check how well the beneficiaries were able to adapt to the new skill that they got and to verify how well their new business is going. ### By: Chester Carlo M. Trinidad, Listahanan Information Officer
