Tuguegarao City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development through Regional Director Fernando De Villa Jr. assures the availability of its Food and Non-Food Items to augment the stocks of Local Government Units (LGUs) heavily affected by the flooding of Cagayan River in the aftermath of Typhoon Ulysses from November 11 to 13, 2020.
To date, a total of 29,787 Family Food Packs (FFPs) amounting to 14,842,230.44 has been delivered to provincial and selected municipal LGUs: Cagayan with a total of 16,887 FFPs; Isabela with 12,200 FFPs; Nueva Vizcaya with 700 FFPs and Quirino with 1,300 FFPs. The province of Batanes on the other hand was not affected by the flooding and is yet to request for support when necessary.
According to De Villa, “The FFPs and Non-Food Items are provided to augment the stockpiles of our LGUs especially those who were greatly affected by the flood. Meanwhile, the field office has also deployed its field staff in the regional and municipal level in the delivery of these much needed supplies to our affected families.”
He further claimed that the Regional Disaster Management Response Team is on a 24-hour duty to continuously monitor the situation in every city/municipality of the region together with the provincial Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Offices and Municipal Operations Offices (MOOs) who conduct on-the-ground coordination with LGUs.
The Field Office continues to repack Family Food Packs in addition to the 13,508 currently stored in various regional warehouses which are ready for deployment. 6,583 are currently in the Regional Warehouse; 2,247 in SWAD Nueva Vizcaya; 545 in SWAD Quirino; 2,100 in SWAD Batanes; 492 in SWAD Isabela; and 1,541 in Gamu UPI warehouse.
There are 151,695 families or 583,506 individuals who were affected by the calamity of which 2,071 are still in evacuation centers as of reporting.
A DSWD FFP contain 6 kilograms of rice grain, 8 assorted canned goods and 6 sachets of coffee or cereal drink which is estimated enough to support a family of 5 for 2-3 days.
