The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office II awarded seven Personal Energy Transportation (PET) Assistive Devices to identified PWDs recently.

This is also one of the efforts of the Department to give empower and uplift the lives of PWDs who are orthopedically handicapped to be involved in gainful employment or other activities requiring mobility.
With the help of the Local Social Welfare Development Offices (LSWDOs) Tuguegarao City, DSWD FO2 were able to identify seven deserving PWDs.

 
The grantees are from the Province of Cagayan, namely: Argie Taguna, Lyka R. Herrera, Andrei Pena, Maricris Pingson, Carlito Tumanguil, Roldan Castillo and Mark Jayson Lim.

“Sobrang nagpapasalamat ako sa DSWD at sa lahat ng tumulong para maipagkaloob sa amin ang ganitong regalo. Isa po ito sa pagpapatunay na pwede na din po kaming makipag-sabayan at pag-asa para sa akin na pwede ko ng matupad ang mga pinapangarap ko sa tulong nito. ”, Pena said, one of the recipients of the device.

“Masayang-masaya ako dahil isa ako sa nabigyan. Dream come true talaga, dahil dito pwede na ako makapunta sa mga lugar ng gusto kong mapuntahan na higit pa sa kayang gawin pag naka-wheelchair lang ako”, Pena added.

The distribution of these PET Assistive Devices highlighted the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (July 1 to 31, 2014) with the theme: “Talino at Paninindigan ng Tao may Kapansanan: Pasaporte sa Kaunlaran”.### By: Ailyn P.
