Maconacon, Isabela- The first thing that the residents of this town see in the morning are their makeshift house and a memory of devastation.

It was exactly four  years ago, October 18, 2010, when Typhoon Juan hit this town   and the havoc cast by the storm left most of the residents homeless.

On October 18, 2014, the residents witnessed the inauguration of the Core Shelter Assistance Project (CSAP) implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 02 in coordination with the Provincial Government of Isabela, National Housing Authority and Local Government Unit of this town in Brgy. Fely.

Director Remia T. Tapispisan,  along with Protective Services Unit Head, Ms. Lucy Alan and Mr. Rommel S. Gamiao, Social Welfare Officer II, braved the bad weather conditions in Maconacon for the said inauguration and  monitoring of other programs and services of DSWD.

“Ang pagtulong ng DSWD ay hindi nagtatapos sa pagpapa-sinaya ng proyektong ito, bagkus, marami pang programa  ang nakalaan para sa inyo na tunay na nangangailangan ng tulong at serbisyo,”
Director Tapispisan said.

She likewise added that the government thru DSWD is always ready to deliver social services to the vulnerable sector of the society.

Moreover,  Mayor Ma. Lycelle Kate D. Vicente  expressed her gratitude to DSWD and other partners for the realization of  CSAP.

“Itong CSAP ay isang biyaya na malugod naming tinatanggap at pinagpapasalamat mula sa kaibuturan ng aming puso. Sa mga kababayan kong benepisyaryo, pakaingatan po ninyo ang inyong mga tahanan at nawa’y maging inspirasyo ninyo sa pag-buong muli ng inyong mga pangarap para sa inyong pamilya,” Mayor Vicente said.

The 200 core shelters inaugurated is the second phase of the CSAP projects for the victims of Typhoon Juan, the first phase having been inaugurated in 2012 with 100 core shelter units awarded.

The core shelter units are strongly-structured and can withstand 180 to 220 kilometer per hour wind, intensity four (4) earthquakes, flooding and other similar hazard.

Core Shelter Assistance Project or CSAP is one of the rehabilitation projects of the national government implemented by DSWD. This project aims to provide shelter to disaster-affected families whose houses were destroyed during typhoons and calamities. ### GELA FLOR R. PEREZ, Regional Information Officer II, ROMMEL S.
