Victory is sweeter the second time around!
For two years in a row, Cagayan State University-Sanchez Mira Campus took home two major awards in DSWD’s Film Making Contest conducted as advocacy event in observance of International Day against Human Trafficking on January 21, 2015 in partnership with the Department of Justice Field Office 02.
“Rabngis ti Parsua (Ruin of a Soul)” was hailed as Best Film/Director and Ms. Dana Ivey Morales as Best Actress, two major awards won by the said school in the same contest last year.
The story revolves around a young woman who was misled into working for a cybersex den instead of a decent job she was promised to have when her father got sick and decided to help support her father’s medical needs.
The contest was participated in by students from different colleges in the region and the winners received cash prizes.
The awarding ceremony was a culminating activity for the month-long celebration of International Day against Human Trafficking which kicked off with a series of lecture on Anti-human Trafficking Law all over the region which started during the second quarter and participated in by college students, partner agencies, Local Government Units and other stakeholders.
Human trafficking as defined under Republic Act 9208 or Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 is the recruitment, transportation, transfer or harboring, or receipt of persons with or without the victim’s consent or knowledge, within or across national borders by means of threat or use of force, or other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power or of position, taking advantage of the vulnerability of the person, or, the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation which includes at a minimum, the exploitation or the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery, servitude or the removal or sale of organs.
