A training to keep bees for the production of honey was conducted last March 14 to 16, 2016 by the Sustainable Livelihood Program of DSWD FO2 to 15 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries from the municipalities of San Jose and San Mariano in Isabela.
San Mariano is known for its apiculture, the taking care of bees until they produce honey, and the honey produced from taking care of these insects are sold in Manila, with one of their clients being the national newspaper The Manila Bulletin.
Ms. Pamela Joy Tabua, Project Development Officer II of San Mariano, said that the apiculture in the municipality is backed by the Isabela State University (ISU) who lent some of its experts to train the beneficiaries.
“The beneficiaries from San Jose and San Mariano signified their willingness to join the training and the school (ISU) was able to send trainers to explain how the bee keeping is done,” Ms. Tabua added.
Ms. Tabua also added that the bees used for honey production are not aggressive and almost everyone can take care of them, given the right training. ### By: Chester Carlo M. Trinidad, Listahanan Information Officer
