Acknowledging the key role of partner stakeholders in the implementation of various laws relative to protection of women and, the Regional Juvenile Justice Welfare Council (RJJWC) conducted Orientation on R.A. 9344, otherwise known as Juvenile Justice Welfare Act of 2006, as amended by R.A. 10630 this month.
In the municipalities of Sanchez Mira and Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan, the said orientation was participated by local officials including barangay captains, Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Desk Officers, members of the Municipal Council for the protection of Children and Police Officers, among others.
Fiscal Jacqueline Bondoc of the department of Justice (DOJ) Region 02 led the orientation on VAWC and Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and Children at Risk (CAR) in Sanchez Mira.
Meanwhile, Ms. Shiela Marie T. Apostol, Social Welfare Officer III of the RJJWC, served as the Resource Speaker on the similar orientation in Sta. Praxedes.
“Local officials and law enforcers are our primary responders in the community, hence, we should all work together to keep them abreast of the laws on how to protect one of the most vulnerable sectors in our society, the women and children,” Ms. Apostol said.
In addition, the Council have been doing jail visits in partnership with DOJ and other members of the Council, information dissemination and advocacy activities in various media outfits in the region.
The RJJWC is an attached agency of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) the supervision of which was previously under the Department of Justice (DOJ). ### By: GELA FLOR R. PEREZ, Regional Information Officer II
