During the Enhanced Community Quarantine, it is a common occurrence for motor vehicles traversing the streets to be temporarily halted for disinfection prior to entrance to a village. In Brgy. Sta Catalina, City of Ilagan, Isabela, motorists entering the barangay are met by a team of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials ready with their knapsack of disinfectant spray.

Melvin P. Adurable, SK Chairman, heads the team with project “Spray ng SK” where young leaders and volunteers aged 18 and above conduct disinfection activities around the barangay. Aside from those manning the checkpoints, another group sanitized public spaces such as the barangay hall, health center, playground, covered court as well as the public school. They have also distributed health kits to other barangay frontliners.

A former Expanded Students Grants-In-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) scholar and recipient of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), he expressed his desire to give back while also serving his country in a time when even the littlest contribution matters in the fight against Covid-19.

On his efforts, he says: “Wala ka man sa posisyon o meron, malaki man o maliit, tayo ay may magagawa para sa bayan.”
