To intensify the public’s knowledge about Adoption, staff of the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) office from the provinces of Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya graced a radio program at DWRV Radio Station in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya last February 14, 2014.

The one-hour radio program focused on the activities lined up for the Adoption Consciousness Week Celebration which banners the theme “Legal na Adapsyon sa Lahat ng Pagkakataon”. The theme  highlights the importance of adhering to the legal adoption process in every situation.

The program also revolved around RA 9523 or otherwise known as “An act requiring the certification of DSWD to declare a child legally available for adoption as a prerequisite for adoption proceedings” and other salient information about adoption like its processes, requirements, and benefits.

Guest Social Workers also discussed the Foster Care Act or Republic Act 10165 which includes qualification for those interested in being foster parents or providing temporary care to children in need of special protection.

The SWAD staff who graced the program were Vienalyn G. Rafallo, Social Welfare Officer II, from SWAD Quirino; Aireen Gazmen, Social Welfare Officer II; Brigida Lorenzo, Social Welfare Officer II; and Romana Wakit, Social Welfare Assistant, all from SWAD Nueva Vizcaya.

“Activities like this are very essential to heighten the public’s knowledge and address issues concerning Adoption,” Lorenzo said.

“That’s why we maximized our radio guesting and answered questions sent by our listeners through text messages,” she added.

Aside from the media guestings and interviews, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office II laid different activities for the celebration like hanging of streamers, and the conduct of an  Adoption Forum. ###By VIENALYN G. RAFALLO, Social Welfare Officer II, SWAD Quirino
